Site Induction

A site induction is the briefing every worker must receive from the principal contractor before they begin work on a UK construction site.
CDM 2015 requires the principal contractor to provide every worker with a suitable site induction. There is no fixed format — content typically covers site rules, welfare, fire and emergency procedures, traffic management, RAMS-relevant hazards, PPE, and the chain of command.
Inductions must be repeated at least when site conditions change materially. They are not a one-off at project mobilisation.
Induction is also where contractors find out their RAMS has been rejected — many H&S teams use the induction window to do their final review.
Why it matters
If your RAMS is going to be rejected, it is going to be rejected at induction. Submitting it well in advance avoids the contractor losing a working day with a crew on site and no permission to start.
