CDM 2015

CDM 2015 is the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 — the legal framework that allocates health and safety duties on UK construction projects.
CDM 2015 applies to all construction work in Great Britain, regardless of project value or duration. It sets out specific duties for clients, principal designers, principal contractors, contractors and workers.
The regulations require that risks are managed throughout the project: at design stage, during the work itself, and through to handover. On any project involving more than one contractor, a principal designer and principal contractor must be appointed.
Notifiable projects (more than 30 working days with more than 20 workers at any point, or more than 500 person-days in total) must be notified to the HSE using an F10.
Why it matters
Almost every safety document on a UK construction site exists because of CDM 2015 — the construction phase plan, the principal contractor's RAMS approvals, the F10 notification and the health and safety file at handover all derive from these regulations.
