- When does earthworks need a Temporary Works Coordinator?
- Effectively always on commercial and infrastructure work. Any unsupported slope, batter or bench higher than around 1.2m is a temporary works item requiring competent design and a TWC sign-off. The RAMS references the TWR entry.
- How is plant-pedestrian segregation handled?
- The segregation plan defines exclusion zones around operating plant (typically the slew radius plus 0.5m buffer), pedestrian-only walking routes, banksman positioning, and the eye-contact rule before entering a plant area. This is the single most important control on most earthworks sites.
- What about contaminated land?
- Where the site investigation has identified contamination above generic assessment criteria, the RAMS includes additional COSHH controls — RPE selection, decontamination procedures, PPE doffing arrangements, and disposal routes for arisings. This is treated as a separate method-statement section.
- Will this satisfy a Tier 1 contractor on a major project?
- Yes. The format and content match what HS2, the Tier 1 housebuilders, and the major civils contractors expect. Site-specific TWC names and TWR references are added in the project-details section before submission.
