- Do I need an Environment Agency permit for crushing?
- In most cases yes. The U16 exemption covers small-scale crushing under specified limits; anything beyond that needs a Mobile Plant Permit. The RAMS must record which applies and the registration / permit reference.
- What RPE is needed at the crusher?
- Operatives within the crusher exclusion zone typically need FFP3 disposable RPE as a minimum. Cab-based operators can rely on a sealed cab with pressurised filtered ventilation; if the cab seal is compromised, RPE is required.
- How is the noise issue covered?
- The noise plan records the exposure assessment (typically >100 dB(A) at the crusher), defines a hearing-protection zone, and specifies the protector class. Rotation of operatives is recorded if exposure would otherwise exceed the daily limit value.
- Can the same RAMS cover the whole demolition project?
- It can, but in practice most reviewers prefer a separate demolition RAMS and a separate crushing RAMS. Each operation has different operatives, plant and permit positions.
