What should a construction risk assessment include?
Set out the work and site, significant hazards, who could be harmed, existing precautions and further actions. Make responsibility and timing clear where additional controls are needed. Relevant specialist assessments may also be required for the task; the construction assessment should connect with those records.

RAMS combines risk assessments with a method statement. This page starts a risk assessment for your construction work. If the client needs the working sequence as well, use the RAMS generator or create a separate method statement and check that the documents describe the same scope and precautions.
Does this replace the construction phase plan?
No. The construction phase plan sets out how the project’s construction work will be managed. Your assessment addresses risks from your activity or package. Both should be consistent, including access, coordination with other contractors and emergency arrangements. The appropriate contractor retains responsibility for project planning.
HSE — Contractor responsibilities under CDM 2015Can I use it for a small job or an occupied building?
Yes. Describe the real size and conditions of the job. For occupied premises, include who remains nearby, shared routes, service interruptions and any restrictions on noisy or dusty work. A short job can still need careful coordination, so review the assessment for the actual site.
When should I update the assessment?
Revisit it when the scope, equipment, people or site conditions change, or when an incident, near miss or worker feedback suggests the controls need attention. Check that earlier assumptions still hold before reusing an assessment on a different project.
